Hello! I’m Emily, the latest addition to The Tonic Communications team.
Just a week after my final exam of three fun yet challenging years studying Print Journalism at Nottingham Trent University, today is my first day, and I can’t wait to get started!
Joining as PR account executive, for the next few months I will be finding my feet and settling into my new home at Tonic Tower’s Nottingham PR office.
I fell in love with PR after undertaking a number of placements whilst studying, and felt it was the right career for me.
Initially my love for writing is what spurred me on to apply for a place at Trent studying journalism, and whilst at university I started writing for local newspapers, national magazines and blogging which gave me a broad insight into the world of journalism.
Alongside this I am a keen baker, and set up my own baking blog after embarking on a two week internship at Delicious. Magazine in London last year; it’s still one of my highlights of my time at university. My other hobbies include performing, and I am an acting member of a regional musical theatre group. My last appearance on stage was last autumn as a member of the chorus in the musical The Witches of Eastwick, which was great fun.
Amongst all this, securing a job to go to as soon as I finished university was really important, so I started applying for a role back in Easter. What really stood out about The Tonic was its fresh vibe and creative approach – and after being offered a position here I was thrilled. I can’t believe day one has already arrived!
Although I have barely had a chance to comprehend the transfer from student to graduate with a full-time job (it’s actually rather scary when I say it out loud) my key advice to any students is get out there and get experience, it’s invaluable.
As for me – wish me luck!
