The Tonic was PR and content agency for the region’s largest bus operator, Go North East

Connecting the region’s towns and villages with the cities of Newcastle, Durham and Sunderland, around 200,000 people use Go North East bus services every day.

As a long term content agency and strategic consultant, Tonic worked closely with Go North East’s commercial, retail and marketing teams to drive awareness through integrated communications.

Activity spanned:

  • media relations
  • stakeholder relations
  • internal communications
  • copywriting
  • content development
  • event support

Awards were an essential part of the ongoing communications activity too. The Tonic developed award submissions and provided advice on attendance and supporting materials. Submissions drafted by The Tonic had a 90% success rate – meaning Go North East was either shortlisted or won an award.

Standout success including Go North East scooping gold in the Recruiter Awards for its innovative apprenticeship scheme, and for inclusive tourism in the North East Tourism Awards.

With a team over 2000 people and a wide-reaching network of stakeholders, Go North East had lots to talk about. To help the bus operator share this good news, as the primary content agency The Tonic compiled and edited the bi-monthly On the Go newsletter. Plus drafted news alerts for the company newsroom, developed partner brochures and a range of stakeholder communications.

In the client’s words:

“Over 70 million passengers use our services every year and many of them sign up to our newsroom and social channels for regular updates and news. Thanks to the support of The Tonic, we can share regular yet newsworthy content to our customers and keep our team members up-to-date. We choose to work with like-minded agencies that fit with our fast-paced and innovative style of working and since day one, Tonic has really fit that bill. The team is a great extension to our marketing department.”

The Tonic has also supported Go Ahead Group, Translink and other transport providers. To find out more about our transport expertise, get in touch with our team.
